"...Bibi? Are you awake?" Sadik called out in a low whisper. Darkness surrounded him, but it had not swallowed up the woman in front of him. No reply emanated from her, no movement other than gently breathing showed he to be living, and nothing made Sadik more happy than his presence by her side. Very gently, with held breath and a loving touch, Sadik caressed the woman's face, sighing shakily and almost fearfully. "Bibi?" The woman stirred, mumbling under her breath something that the soldier could not hear. "... Bibi, I didn't want to wake you... but I needed to talk to you..."
"... Who...?" the woman finally said, swatting the hand the touched her away gently, her eyes opening and gazing with confusion into the darkness. "S-Sadik?" She called out, fearful and uncertain herself with arrival of the not-so-young man. "What are you doing here... I didn't get a letter saying you were coming home..."
"Bibi... I... I need you to listen, now more than ever..." Sadik mumbled, his speech lazily and heavy with guilt, though his voice crisp. The woman nodded, sitting up and beginning to rub her eyes; Sadik, though, urged her to lie back and relax, and simply listen to his voice. "All my life I have wanted nothing but your happiness and your safety... Everything I ever did, the good and the bad, all went for your sake, Bibi... There were times, though, that I knew that I would have to sacrifice one for the other... you couldn't always be happy and safe, so I'd have to choose... eventually I learned that I couldn't choose for you and that I'd have to do what I believed was right for our family... Such was my responsibility as the man of the house... And that's... one of the reasons I'm here right now..."
"Sadik... it's almost three, what's going on my child?" the woman questioned, reaching out to touch her son's face.
"Bibi... I've been arrested for treason..." Immediately, Sadik could feel as though his mother's hand had frozen, suspended in disbelief. "Treason and human trafficking..."
"Y-You? Arrested for treason?" The woman shook her head, refusing to believe this. "My son, I do not believe this... you were as patriotic as young man came, more than that even! Arrested for treason?"
"I do not have time to explain Bibi, I escaped from prison that I may talk with you... And ask you to do the most difficult thing..." Sadik said, holding his mother's hands and looking her in the eyes, pleading, pained, and needing. "You must disown me. You must no longer call me your son. With this charge on me, I have destroyed the good name that Baba gave our family... It does not make you happy, I know, but it will protect you... it will keep you and everyone else safe..."
"There's nothing to keep safe Sadik..." The woman shook her head, her hair far more hoary than it was but a moment ago. "Your brothers and sisters are gone, they left not too long after you did..." It was hard to say, but it almost appeared as though with every passing moment, the woman became more and more frail, more haggard, more deathly. "I think your sister might've been killed... and your youngest brother got caught up in human trafficking... probably sold someplace..."
"Wh-what?! B-Bibi you sound like you don't even care... What's wrong with you?!" Sadik snapped, stepping away from his mother as her skin began to melt off of her, her eyes burning a scarlet red as a vicious laugh came from her throat. "Who the fuck are you?!" Sadik exclaimed, pulling his assault rifle from his shoulder strap and shooting. Whatever was once his mother laughed, letting the putrid green liquid seep from her being into a mess of ooze from where the bullets shot. The creature reached forward, grabbing Sadik as he struggled against it, assaulting it with the butt of his gun and trying with all his might to break free. But nothing was successful. It lifted him like a toothpick, snapping him in half with ease as it cackled viciously.
Sadik sat up in shock, feeling the sweat dripping from his face, his eyes burning behind his mask. He ripped the covering off his face, panting desperately. The room was dark, but there was noise all around him, explosions and gun shots and shouts. There was never a quiet moment any more... ever since he escaped prison the first time, it was nothing but noise almost every night... but this dream. This dream was new, and it was horrible. Sadik panted, trying desperately to regain his sanity and his composure. But, finally, he hunched over himself, cupping his hands to his eyes, feeling as though he could cry. No matter how old he might have been, no matter the experiences, no matter how far from home he could be and no matter how his family might've despised him, Sadik missed her mother, his Bibi very much. He paused, still breathing jagged breaths, and fell to his knees, beginning to pray, holding his necklace in his hands and reciting the prayers he had learned since he was young. Sometimes, it was all that could calm him... He didn't know where he was, why he was there, or what he'd be doing, but the place smelled of death, and he knew that only Allah could provide for him now.
