The Start of Something New Maria and Matthew
Take a deep breath, everything will be fine! You can do this!
Breathing in and out a few times, Matthew braced himself and looked down at the paper in his hands one last time.
Yeah...this is the place.
For Matt, it was almost hard to believe that he would be living away from home now. He had cried almost half-way towards his new home; and while he had ran out of tears, it was still depressing.
Slowly, he took one more deep breath. Taking a moment and knocking on the door to his new life. There's no turning back now...

(This is the staart of something new~ It feels so right to be here with you~ And now, looking in your eyyyyyes, I feel in my heaaaaart~ The start of something new~)
Flipping her hair over her shoulder, Maria flashed the mirror a wide grin and struck raised her evoker to point it at the reflective barrier. "Bang," she murmured under her breath, chuckling. Her crimson eyes sparkled dully with excitement as she glanced at the clock and placed the 'gun' in a holster hidden by her red hoodie. There were only ten precious minutes left before that time came, and she had a job to keep them at bay.
"Auf wiedersehen, Papa, bruder!" she said with a wave to two picture frames on her desk before turning off the light and running downstairs. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she noted that the new transfer student that was supposed to have come today hadn't arrived yet. Which was weird. However, the idea was quickly dismissed and the silverette hurried across the lobby. Perhaps her awesomeness had simply had a small lapse and the person was actually coming tomorrow.
Now complaints from her. At least she didn't have to worry about making sure he was in bed and asleep by midnight.
Just as she was reaching for the front door, a knock met her ears and she froze, eyes wide. Shit, it can't be him this late...
Sighing in annoyance, Maria pulled the door open and blinked. The boy's appearance had not been what she was expecting at all. "Uh, guten abend. A bit late, aren't you?"

He had only been standing there for a few seconds, when the door opened. When it did, he was greeted by a girl with red-eyes; and if he wasn't so awkward around women, he might be so inclined to call her beautiful.
Matthew had never met anyone with red eyes before, it was rather endearing in it's own way. But, it terrified him at the same time.
"Uh, guten abend. A bit late, aren't you?"
He froze up out of instinct, fiddling with the sleeve of his over-sized hoodie and stuttering.
"Y-yeah..I-I'm sorry, I really.. I'm sorry, my cab was late a-and then I missed the train and..." his face flushed a little bit as he blurted all of it out.
Great first impression, Matthew...just great... he mentally beat himself up.
Matt had never actually thought about how late it was. But, now that he looked around it was really dark out.

I can never catch a break around here, can I...? Maria thought with a sigh as she leaned against the doorway and ran her slender fingers through her hair. If the timing had been better, she would have more than happily welcomed the new student to the dorms, but there was so little time left. I'm too awesome for this. Couldn't the school have done something about this? Verdammt.
Smirking quietly, the Prussian female looked the new student up and down. He was timid, that much was obvious, but he had a kind face. So that was something. Still, someone without a spine wouldn't last long around here. Then again, he would be a coffin in a few minutes, anyway. Why worry about something that didn't require attention?
"You're kinda cute," she commented with a grin, leaning forward to get a better look at his face under the low evening light. "Matthew, right? You're from... it was Canada, ja? Well, hurry up, it's almost midnight. You need to get your stuff in and settle down for the night--I bet you're tired." Not waiting for an answer, she grabbed two of his bags and started back inside, making her way toward the stairs. "Boys are on the second floor and girls are on the third. We're the only ones in this building so far, so don't get too creeped if it's quiet. I usually play some awesome music to make it feel less empty during the day."
With a grin, she paused at the foot of the stairs and began pointing to different parts of the lobby as she explained. "Kitchen is through there. The school funds it, but we have to make our own food. The Head of Dorms office is down that little hallway through the door at the end, but we don't have one yet. I'm the RA, so come to me ify ou need anything. The living room is pretty obvious, and that area over there is for chilling without the TV, that door leads to a study room, and those two are bathrooms--both unisex. Now, if you'll follow me upstairs..."

Oh no, she must be irritated with me...
Matthew watched her movements carefully, a skill he had attempted to master. All for the sake of staying under the radar and avoiding unnecessary trouble.
"I'..I'm sorry if I--" "You're kinda cute," Matthew was cut off and suddenly turned a light shade of pink, surprised by the sudden compliment given to him.
He barely heard anything else, (as he was too shocked to even think) but it seemed that this girl knew his name, "Y-yes, I'm Matthew..." he said timidly. And before he could say anything else, the red-eyed girl had taken two of his bags and started walking inside.
"We're the only ones here? W-what about the other students in the school?" Matt was sure that there would be more than just the two of them, but maybe this was a new dorm. It would make sense...
"T-that's alright, I'm used to the quiet. A-and, I know how to cook...so I could do that..." it looked to him like some of his skills were going to actually be useful around here, and he smiled despite being absolutely nervous about these new surroundings.
"...Now, if you'll follow me upstairs..."
" I..I'm sorry, before we do. I..I didn't get your name?" he looked down at the floor, blushing slightly "I..it was rude of me not to ask for your name...sorry.

Pausing midway up the stairs, the silverette turned around on the staircase to look at Matthew. Her head inclined to the side, allowing her silver bangs to fall over her eyes. Thinking about it, she had rushed ahead a bit... It wouldn't hurt to humour the boy before he transmogified. "Maria," she answered with a grin. "Maria Weillschmidt, and I'm the most awesome person you'll ever meet."
When they reached the top of the stairs, she continued down the hallway, pointing out and explaining anything that needed explanations. Stopping outside one of the doors, she produced a pair of keys and held it out. "You get two keys, one to keep on your person, and a spare just in case. Lose them both, and you have to pay for a replacement." Taking a step back, she left room for Matthew to move forward and unlock the door. After all, dorms were a big deal. Rights of passage layed with the first unlocking of the door. Or something like that.
"As for why we're the only ones... These dorms are new. For special students, too. I dunno how to explain other than to feel unique. You get to be graced with the awesome me and special dorms. We'll be getting more people as the year goes on."

"It's nice to meet you, M-maria.." he offered the girl a bright smile before taking the keys to his new room. The Canadian decided not to ask about what she meant by 'awesome', though.
Matthew walked up and unlocked the door, pushing his bags inside with his foot. He hadn't brought much with him, so they were relatively light and easy to move.
The dorm room wasn't anything like he was accustomed to back home. It was bare, cold, and lacking in furniture (save for a bed, desk with a chair, and dresser.) He sighed at the sight, somewhat exhausted physically and mentally from everything that happened.
"I..I guess that I should go to bed then. Thank you for everything, Maria..and so-sorry for being late today." he flashed her another smile before deciding to turn on the light.
Only thing was, it didn't turn on.
"..I..I think my light-bulb is burned out..." he said nervously.

Sighing quietly, Maria set the bags in her arms down and started to take a step back. Just as she was about to leave the room, her entire body froze and she turned back around, staring at Matthew in faint horror. "You're... not a coffin," she muttered, dumbstruck. Suddenly, the reasoning for the boy's new appearance in the dorm was making more sense, but more users had been the last thing she expected. Awesome. Way to warn me, admins. I hope you all burn in hell.
"This is just great," she sighed, "As if dealing with those things wasn't bad enough. You're not supposed to be walking around. Verdammt." The thought of having to explain everything that was currently happening was exhausting, and not at all tempting.
Still, it didn't seen as if she was going to have a choice in the matter.
It was a comforting thought when Maria didn't hear the sounds of Shadows attempting to break in the door. That meant that it was very likely this kid--Matthew--was able to fight like her. Or so she'd been taught. There was really only one way to find out, but pulling out her evoker and aiming it at his head seemed a bad idea. "Just unpack as best you can. We need to talk when you finish. I'll explain what is going on."

Matthew had to think about what she just said before a moment before staring at Maria in complete horror. A COFFIN?! WHY WOULD I BE A COFFIN?!
He shuddered at the thought.
"I..I'm sorry...I don't mean to be a burden..I-I can go and tie my legs up or something..." Matt was nervous, he'd never been told that he shouldn't be walking around before. I knew it, she is annoyed with me...
Despite being told to unpack, he just shook his head and closed his door. Something was up, and he wasn't liking it. "W-whats going on?"

"Tie your legs--what? Are you stupid? Why on earth would your tie yourself up? That makes it harder to defend yourself. Just come on..." Grabbing Matthew's hand, Maria dragged him up to the fourth floor where they entered the command centre. As much as she would have rather been outside venting her frustration on the creatures known as Shadows, if this person was awake and going to live in the same dorm, she owned an explanation.
After all, she was the awesome leader. Even if her naturally beauty and general awesomeness got her followers, she did have to earn the title. Most of the time.
"Alright, I'm going to use the control panel to help. It has pictures and short videos and crap, so it'll make this easier for me to explain." Once the machine was on, Maria booted it up and pulled up several programmes and a file-folder of pictures. It would take a while, but at least the new boy wouldn't be wetting himself or his bed. She hopped. Maria would not wash any sheets with that sort of mess in them.
"So, let's get started... This is known as the Dark Hour, and..." By the time the explanation was over, it was almost time for the Dark Hour to end, but Maria felt pride in the fact that (she believed) she had given an awesome explanation of it all.

Dark Hour and Shadows?
After Matthew had been led inside he stood behind Maria and watched all the videos and explanations. There were pictures of these shadowy creatures. Something similar to the monsters that him and Alfred used to see underneath the bed. Actually, they looked almost exactly alike. It made Matthew shudder at the mere sight of one of his childhood fears.
There was a couch on the far-side wall, and the boy went over a plopped down on it. "...W-wait..let me get this straight..." Matthew removed his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose. This was almost too much at such a late hour. He was exhausted emotionally and drained physically from not sleeping on the way to the dorm...it was a long trip to boot! "These monsters...Shadows? How are we supposed to stand up to them?"
He rubbed his eyes, "I-I don't even know why I'm here. This 'Dark Hour' thing...I see it happening, but I d-don't know...is it all a trick?" Matthew was having a hard time taking it all in...it was almost surreal and his brain just couldn't process the information.
"I still don't understand w-why you are telling me this. I..I can't fight these things! They'll rip me apart!"

"That's why you need one of these," Maria said, drawing the evoker from its holster and holding it up. "You need this to summon your Persona to fight the Shadows." The sleek silver metal that made up the gun-like device gleamed under the eerie light of the hidden hour's moon. She held the item out, holding the barrel as the handle was offered to the blond. Offering it the other way would have posed a problem--the kid looked ready to pass out.
"Take this one, I've got a spare." The evoker was shoved into Matthew's hand as she took a step back, grinning. The best way to learn was through example, after all. She knew enough about what she was doing to manage if the kid messed up, so all she needed to do was pray that the new boy had the balls to pull the trigger. "So, ready to head out?"
Not waiting for an answer, the silverette stepped back and sprinted downstairs. The spare evoker was in her room and if they were going to get outside for action at all tonight, they'd have to move quickly.

If Matthew hadn't been so tired, he would have run out of that room and ran to the nearest police station...or mental institution. Maria did not just pull a gun on him! This was all too surreal, there was no way that it was real. It was all an illusion bred by his exhaustion, and he would keep telling himself that.
Until the gun was shoved into his hands, "I-I-I..." he stammered nonsensically. He just sat there and looked at the gun for a moment. It wasn't heavy, nor did it seem to dangerous. However, that didn't change the fact that it was a gun.
"W-wait, out?! What do you mean 'go out'?!" Matthew was pulled out of his thoughts and quickly followed the red-eyed girl.
"I-I can't go out there! Y-you just said there were shadows out there!" Matthew continued to shout (which was probably a little lower than a regular speaking voice to most people) as he kept following.
"T-there's no way I can fight those things!" he grabbed Maria's sleeve, looking at her with tired eyes. "H-how am I supposed to fight without this...Persona thing?" [/blockquote]

"Didn't you listen to anything I said...?" Maria asked with a loud sigh, pulling a second evoker from a desk drawer. "I told you, we have to fight the Shadows. Honestly..." As skiddish as the boy was, the Prussian female had half-expected him to suddenly freeze by the door and ask permission to enter. At least he'd had the guts to enter a ladies room without thinking about it. She could only hope that would be useful in the form of guts.
"Just follow me outside. The only way to know if you have a Persona and can use one is to throw you right in. Besides, as soon as you summon, the rest is easy. Your Persona will tell you everything you need to know--and don't worry. If you freeze up, I'll protect you." Sometime later that night, Maria was sure that she would realise how unorthadox her methods for getting the blonde out onto the field were, but right now, that wasn't important. The faster she got help, the easier things would be. The boy looked like he needed a few good shakes to get himself moving, anyway.
"So, are you coming?" she asked with a wide grin as she pulled away and started for the door. "Live a little, Mattie. Just follow me and it'll all be awesome. Hell, you might end up having fun a little fun~"

"I-I know you said we have to fight them. B-but, I still am not quite sure how!"
Matthew darted his eyes around, trying to find some answers. Or maybe an escape route. Of course, there was no such thing to be had and if he had had half his mind with him, Matt might have noticed that he had taken steps into Maria's room. Sadly, his mind was only a jumbled mess of emotions and fatigue.
His eyes darted at Maria as she made her way to the door. Throw me in?! Matthew started instantly panicking; "M-Maria! I can't go out there!" he reverted his eyes down at the gun that had been handed to him mere minutes before. "I...I've never used a gun before." Matthew stated honestly.
It gave him a little bit more courage to know that Maria would be there though. So, maybe it would be okay.
"I..I don't think I'll be of much help, b-but I guess." he pauses, thinking for a moment, "...I guess I can try."
He stood behind Maria, sighing heavily "I-I'm sorry, but I don't see how fighting these things is going to be fun..." a quiver was present in his voice. Matthew remembered the videos well and knew what these things were capable of.
While he would normally run away from this situation, his brain could not function the way it should have. That little nagging voice that usually warned him to run and hide was not even there. [/blockquote]

"Live a little," Maria repeated, clapping Matthew on the back as she urged him forward and back toward the main doors. "It isn't nearly as bad as you think. Those videos are pretty intense. I guess it's meant to scare off the people without spines and keep them from getting hurt. Who knows. I didn't make them. They would have been more awesome if I made them." Nodding to herself as if confirming the truth behind her own statement, the albino female all but flew out the doors, dragging her new "friend" behind her.
Once they got outside, as Maria expected, the Dark Hour had already arrived. The moon, once a pale white, was now an eerie yellow and floated in a vivid viridian green sky. Puddles from the earlier ran-storm lost their transparent hue and now held the appearance of pools of blood scattered about the ground. Dotted throughout the sidewalks and streets, ebony coffins with a crimson hue about them stood tall and skill--all those without the potential completely transmorgified. Such a sight was enough to make anyone shiver with unease or turn stomachs, but Maria walked through the scene as if it were no different from the town during the day, still pulling Matthew behind her.
Despite the Prussian's calm appearance, her senses were completely on-edge. Her ruby eyes darted left and right as her ears strained against the silence for any sounds of movement save for the two pairs of footsteps. Her breathe had gone silent, and the only proof that she was still breathing was the gentle twitch of her chest every few seconds. When they finally reached the end of the block, the albino stilled and looked around with a small sigh of what appeared to be relief. "It's quiet tonight," she commented casually, releasing the blond's arm. "That's kinda weird. But I guess I shouldn't jinx it. Even someone as awesome as myself shouldn't tempt the powers that be."
Another quick glance up and down the road told the female that nothing would be happening for at least a few minutes and she allowed her guard to drop slightly. Her hand still remained at her side, ready to grab the evoker that sat nestled in it's holster at the first sign of danger, but for now, she could afford to relax. After all, it wouldn't be any good if she made the new student faint from the shock of all the new information. Not to mention it would make fighting harder. "So... what do you think? Creepy, huh? But it's also kinda awesome in it's own way. We're the only people awake at this time. At least, as far as I know. It's just been me all by my awesome self for a while, but it's nice to have someone else around."
