Country of Origin: Lao People’s Democratic Republic
Name: Kalani VoraChaiVang
Gender: Male
Height: 4'3.2"
Weight: 70.4 pounds
Age: Eleven years old (almost Twelve)
Year: Freshman
Clubs: Sewing, Basketball
Appearance:
A petite child that, compared to most, looks like he should be still in elementary school, Kanali has a softer, more delicate appearance, which, coupled with his long black hair that is most often pulled back into a braid, or, occasionally, a ponytail, can make him look like a girl, even when he is wearing the male uniform. He is rather androgynous looking, over-all, and is the kind of person that can be easily overlooked, with his lack of height not helping that factor at all.
Personality: Kanali is an interesting person, to say the least. He’s quite antisocial, never wanting to talk to others, and highly wary, yet melts at the first indication that someone likes him. It seems an odd combination, but, having not gotten much affection either physical or verbal from his family, the child soaks up the feeling that someone appreciates him, making him want to strive harder for said person. On the other hand, even if he may want their attention and work hard for it, for every inch that he would gain in a person’s life that was nice to him, he is very reluctant to give even a centimeter, wanting to keep everything to himself.
A reserved person, he is good at not seeming to care, unless he really really does, but is highly empathetic, hating it when someone is hurt or sad, and wishing he could do something to stop it. A hater of bullies, Kanali is quite willing to go out of his comfort zone to stop someone, wanting to back them up, but is the opposite for himself, never wanting others to get involved and help him. In some ways, this makes him a hypocrite, but yet, at the same time, it’s because he doesn’t feel it’s anyone’s duty to get involved with him in any way.
He does not make connections easily, and doesn’t particularly care about that fact, seeing this as one year before he can head off, but yet is a puppy, having been fed once and always coming back. He might deny the affection, or the relationship, but it is there, and he will keep coming back for more. At the same time, Kanali can be quite mean and hurtful, though not truly intentionally, to those he likes, not really knowing anything but that. However, if his actions are emulated by someone else, he would quickly drive them off, claiming that the teasing/bullying was his job, and his job alone.
Honestly, the boy would rather be curled up in his room with a good book, rather than interact with people, but, being as strong-willed and hard-working as he is, Kanali would do his best to muscle through even the worst interaction, trying to stop himself from fleeing, no matter how difficult the task. After all, at heart, he’s just a shy little boy who wants a friend.

History: Born to a typical pair of Laotian parents, reserved and not prone to showing affection, Kanali grew up immersed in books. His family, realizing that he was quite smart, had him bumped up many grades, until, finally, he was taking classes with children far beyond his years. The work was still not challenging for him, though, and the boy never spent much time with his far older classmates. In truth, his school years, especially his ‘middle school’ ones, were not the most fun. He spent most of his time holed away in the library, reading book after book, and amassing more and more knowledge. Needless to say, his classmates were not exactly pleased with ‘this little brat’ showing them up.
As a result, the young boy was quite taunted and teased throughout his years, but, like the reserved child he was, Kanali bore it, and neither the teachers nor his parents heard a whisper, seeing the brilliant but shy child that he appeared to be. Lacking friends to stick up for him, and not reacting much to their taunting, the bullies ended up getting harder on him, going to actual physical bullying, but the Laotian simply learned to dodge, and how to be quick on his feet.
Ironically, despite the people there, school became a second refuge for the child, along with the library, a place where he could excel and not be punished for his knowledge. His parents, though he loved him so, didn’t react much to his good grades, only conveying their disapproval when he did not do well, and it was the teachers he went to, to confirm that yes, he was doing well, and that he could do much. In fact, they believed quite highly in him, and, several times, recommended to his parents that he pretty much forgo high school altogether, and head straight for college.
Kanali quite liked the idea, and brought it up several times to his parents. Much to his delight, they shared his views on the idea, but, one day, the invitation to the school came, scholarship and all. Seizing the chance, his parents promised him that if he could manage to get through one year of high school, proving that he could and that he could handle the grades, he could skip the rest of it, and go for college. The boy, though reluctant to head far away from his family, agreed, and soon, he was packed up and ready to go. One year, just one, and he would be done. Free to move on with his life.

Strengths:
- Strategist - Rather smart, Kanali is good at making up strategies of any kind, whether they be for the most efficient way to study, or the most effective battle plan.
- Intelligence - The Laotian is quite intelligent, often able to piece together a few scraps of what seems like nothing in order to come up with a very astute conclusion.
- Observant - Kanali is a master at noticing things that most people wouldn't, and keeping note of them when many would dismiss them.
- Quick - The boy is quick, able to dart easily from one spot to another and outrun quite a few people.
- Good Memory - Being quite able to soak up knowledge, Kanali has learned to retain things easier, and almost always has a perfect memory, if only for the words and not the images.
Weaknesses:
- Weak - Kanali is definitely not the best in the physical strength area, lacking strength in general, in all parts of his body.
- Socially Inept - Having spent much of his time learning and studying, rather than attempting to make friends, Kanali isn't very wise on what to do in that area, and often makes blunders.
- Health - Kanali has never been one to try to take care of his health, and when he is busy with something, it can suffer quite a bit, leading to dark circles underneath his eyes and a weak immune system.
- Perfectionist - The boy wants to always have /everything/ correct, at all times, and often works himself to the bone trying to perfect something that is impossible to perfect.
- Naive - For someone that is quite well-read, Kanali is quite naive and ignorant about how the world works, and many things can come as a surprise to him.

Honestly, this was really quite irritating. Why had they done this, again? Laos couldn’t believe the absurdity of it. For today, all of the nations were allowed to bring in their colonies, to witness how the big meetings worked, and while the nod that had been given by Sandwich was much appreciated, the meeting had dragged on forever. Some of those colonies were quite young, after all, (the nation refused to even consider relative ages, compared to them), and had to be led out for simple things like using the bathroom. Geeze! And, to top it all off, today had apparently been ‘Guess Laos’s gender day’, at least to Miss Hungary. Couldn’t she leave off? Honestly, did it matter if the nation was a boy or not? According to her, yes.
Kanali didn’t get it, not at all. After all, Japan had tried to speak all about the wonders of ‘yuri’, whatever /that/ was, as soon as he had found out about his younger ‘sibling’s’ not-so-secret crush on the Southern Sandwich Islands, but Kanali just pushed the issue away. After all, Sandwich didn’t care, and truthfully, that was really all that mattered. The nation could figure out the issue of gender later. Come to think of it, where was Sandwich? The last the Asian had seen of her, she was getting her packed lunch from England…
Swearing profusely as the problem revealed itself, Laos dashed off in the direction of the girls’ bathroom, hoping that she would be there, and hopefully not bent over a toilet. “I’m coming, rosbif!” If England had poisoned her…
