Matthew chuckled in response, deciding to just play on this a little more. It had been far too long since he'd gotten to pick on his brother in this way. If there was one thing that Matt could do to get Alfred riled up, it was call him out on his weight (even if it wasn't the truth.)
Smiling, the 'younger' brother (really, that was something that could be disputed. It was only by a few seconds!) took off his glasses and held them to the light. "H-huh, look at that, there is a smudge on them." he commented with mock-sincerity before bringing them down and cleaning them off with his hoodie sleeve.
After he assured that they were clean, he put them back on his face and blinked a few times before looking over Alfred again.
"Hmmm..."
Matthew looked like he was deep in thought, but in reality, he was just playing around. He rubbed the back of his neck before smiling brightly. "N-nope, still l-look a little pudgy to me." [/blockquote]

When the Canadian pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose, Alfred’s infamous pout returned, his cheeks still aflame. He was teasing him! The jerk!
The blond most definitely wasn’t fat, or pudgy for that matter. While this was true, and he hated to admit it, even to himself, but the constant references to him as the ‘fatty’ or ‘bottomless pit’ for the majority of his life, just because of the fact that he had more of an appetite than others, had ultimately got to him.
“I’m not pudgy!” He retaliated self-consciously, Matt definitely having struck a chord. “Like I said, my body’s perfectly sculpted! You’re just jealous!”
Frowning, he stormed ahead of his brother into the kitchen, looking around and sizing up his new surroundings for a brief moment before gratefully spotting an empty space for him to sit on the floor next to the trash can, just like at home. Mom, way back when, and Matt would always be the ones that insisted on cooking, and God knew Alfred and his dad couldn’t cook as good as those two if their lives depended on it, so they usually just went along with it. Alfred would always sit in that empty spot that also seemed to reside here in the dorm with a hand-held or maybe even a comic book and simply watch or talk to them while they cooked, a habit he wouldn’t necessarily have to break now, he figured.
Well, right now, he was more set on sulking in that corner, much like a child—and he would relentlessly deny this—until Matt apologized, but either way. With this goal in mind, Alfred made his way over to the specified spot and plopped down with crossed arms, huffing, refusing to look at his twin all the while.

In a way, Matthew had anticipated this reaction, too. But not for him to storm off and get so up in arms about it. He was just teasing his brother a little, after all. It wasn't like he never called him names or ever made fun of him. Still, Matthew did feel a little guilty.
"Y-you know I'm just kidding." he offered, following his brother as he stormed into the kitchen.
He was met with a somewhat familiar sight once they were inside, though. And it made Matthew smile all the more. He could remember the times when he would just sit in an open space and keep them company throughout cooking. And it warmed his heart to know that his brother hadn't changed one bit in the few months they were away from one another.
It wasn't that he had expected him to change, but he thought that things might have been a little more awkward because of the way that he left. Much to his relief, this didn't seem to be the case.
Instead of walking to the stove, Matthew walked towards the freezer and pulled out a Popsicle. The Canadian removed the wrapper as quietly as possible, hoping that Alfred hadn't heard it before walking over and holding it to him.
"S-still have a little bit of cooking to do, will this be okay until then?" he asked, smile still on his face.
Alfred could sulk all he want, and really, Matthew thought it was funny when he did. His brother could be such a little kid sometimes. And as such, there was one treat that a kid could never resist: Ice Cream. [/blockquote]

When he noticed that his twin followed him, Alfred huffed a second time, fixing his firm gaze on the floor in front of him.
In reality, the American knew very well that Matt had only been teasing him and hadn’t meant anything by it. Not to mention, he had never actually gone so far as to go to his brother and tell him directly that being taunted or getting comments about his weight actually bothered him, nor had he told anyone else, for that matter, but still. He was still dead set on pouting until he got an apology, and he wouldn’t budge, physically or mentally until he got one.
.. Or, at least, that was what he was dead set on, at least until he looked up, expecting the other to be reprimanding him about being more mature, but only to find him standing there offering him a popsicle. A popsicle, of his very favorite brand (next to the Spongebob Pop-Ups, of course). It was a Firecracker, red, white and blue in all of its glory.
As he eyed it, his optics practically sparkled, and it wasn’t long before he was reaching up, taking it in his hands and relishing in the sweet and all too familiar taste of it.
“Okay, maybe I forgive you!” Alfred giggled as if he’d completely forgotten the previous endeavor, perhaps too excited than any teenage boy should be over the frozen treat, but regardless, afterward resuming in his childlike engrossment over the popsicle. “I can wait!” He then assured cheerily, his statement made all the more valid by his current preoccupation.

Shaking his head, Matthew let out a small amused chuckle, "Y-you haven't changed on bit, Alfred."
Matthew straightened himself and walked back over to the stove. He had the patties at the ready, they just needed to be cooked. Though, the Canadian could swore that he had left the stove on low.
!!
That's when he remembered that it was the Dark Hour. Matthew quickly spun around an looked wide-eyed at Alfred. He had just remembered what he wanted to ask his brother from the moment that he had walked in the door, but never got the chance. Wait, hadn't the American talked about being sleep-deprived?
He looked a bit horrified for a moment before opening his mouth to speak, "H-hey, Alfred? W-...was there anything" he cleared his throat, trying to find the best words, "Anything odd going on when you c-came here? [/blockquote]

The American, who had been slurping his popsicle obliviously and happy as can be, was about to strike up a lively conversation with his twin while he prepared dinner, perhaps one about the other residents in the dorm or how the Canadian had been faring since he’d arrived. He was curious, after all. Not to mention, he wanted to make sure nobody was giving his little brother a hard time, and he definitely wouldn’t say that outright, for several reasons, but put in the simplest and most blunt of terms, he wanted to know if he had to bust any heads. Sooner was always better than later, especially since Matt had always been the type that could potentially succumb to bullying, what with being far too timid and instantly obedient. He couldn’t help worrying for him.
His train of thought was cut short when his brother suddenly whipped from facing the stove to face him, looking downright horrified. He would have inquired if he was alright, but he beat him to the punch by inquiring him.
“Mshodhmm—” Alfred paused and reluctantly pulled the frozen treat from his mouth, licking his lips before continuing to speak. “Odd?” He paused once again, looking completely and utterly lost before his own eyes widened in realization, mirroring his twin’s. “Oh! Yeah, dude, I was sayin’ earlier, it looked like someone dumped Spaghetti-Os all over the street, or something! Oh, and I coulda’ sworn everything was all green, but seriously, I think that might be ‘cause of that 3-D movie I went to see before I came today.” He pouted slightly, convinced it was all a sleep deprived hallucination. Really, for soup or red whatever to be splattered everywhere and for everything to suddenly have a green hue? That sounded like something out of one of his video games. “Those cheap 3-D glasses, seriously..”

"I-if only it was..." he muttered.
Pale, would be the best word to describe Matthew's face at that moment. For one, that he was completely unprepared for the Dark Hour (he had completely forgotten!) and two, for not noticing that his brother was functional during it. That meant that Alfred shared the potential as well.
All the same, he was relieved. Relieved that his brother had not been attacked by shadows during his trek to the dormitory. He was very surprised that Alfred wasn't freaking out as much as he should have been. Matthew could only remember his first encounter too well (and the major freak out and sleepless nights that followed after.)
"I-I'll be back!"
And with that, Matthew had disappeared from the kitchen. He walked up the stairs into his room and removed the curtain from his window. Hoping that maybe nothing would disturb them tonight. In all honesty, he was not actually too bad with handling himself in battle and could heal if things got too rough. But still, he didn't want to put Alfred in danger.
Of course, the Dark Hour isn't that lenient; As soon as the curtain opened, Matthew was met with the blue-masked face of a Shadow. The monster took a stab through the window with one of the knives it carried in it's hands, grazing the Canadian's arm and tearing part of his hoodie off with it. The glass shattered and made a loud noise as the being began to move into the dorm.
Cursing, Matt ran for the desk and pulled out the silver-colored object from one of the drawers. He held it to his head and pulled the trigger, "B-Bufudyne!" he cried. The white bear, Callisto, appeared and cast the spell of ice on it's target.
However...there didn't seem to be any effect.
Matthew paused, lowering his gun. Don't tell me...
Soon, the shadow was making it's way over to the Canadian. Making itself look bigger in an effort to scare the boy.
Needless to say, it worked.
Quickly, he ran out of his room. Slamming and locking the door behind him in an effort to keep the shadow in. When he thought it was safe, he slid his back against the door and let out a sigh, holding his arm and watching a light trickle of blood flow from it. Pulling his gun up to his head again and about to cast a healing spell.
Yet again, he was taken by surprise. The shadow pierced one of it's knives through the door, the point just missing the side of Matt's head. He stood there dazed for a moment before quickly scrambling to his feet and running down the stairs into the kitchen.
"A-Alfred, w-..we ne-need to go!" he grabbed the others arm and started to hoist him up with his uninjured arm, holding the gun in that hand.
He switched his grip to Alfred's wrist once he had successfully pulled him up and ran into the nearest closet. Hopefully, the shadow would not notice they were in there... [/blockquote]

Alfred’s confusion due to the random and out of context question grew as his twin’s face seemed to pale in response to his explanation. He lowered his popsicle and opened his mouth, once again, to ask if Matt, or, rather, if everything was okay, but in an instant, with a hasty, "I-I'll be back!", his brother was taking his abrupt leave.
Now alone in the kitchen, the dorm’s kitchen, the dorm of which he’d been given no tour of and hadn’t yet grown accustomed to, left sitting on the floor, the American could only quirk an eyebrow in response to his brother’s abnormal behavior.
“Uh, okay.” He finally responded, dumbly, to nobody in particular, Matt surely having been out of earshot by then.
After a quick, final lick of his Firecracker, he stood. Curiosity getting the better of him, he aimlessly wandered around the kitchen, taking quick peaks into the cupboards and fridge. There were snacks he usually ate, but definitely not enough to hold the blond up for more than a week. Good thing he packed some himself. He’d been thinking he’d have to look around to find a good convenience store to satisfy his sugar related cravings, or maybe even a candy store, if there was one when he heard a loud crash that sounded like shattering glass from upstairs, one loud enough to be heard from where he was.
Without even thinking, he hurried over to the kitchen’s doorway.
“Matt, are you okay?!” Alfred called. When a few seconds had passed and he hadn’t been given a response, only another sound, a slam, he felt himself begin to panic and took a few steps towards the stairs. “Matthew! Are—” He began to try a second time, his voice escalating in volume, but before he could properly grasp what was happening, Matt was there grabbing at his wrist. His concern reached its peak when he not only noticed the bleeding nick on his arm, but that he was holding a gun. A gun. His innocent, soft spoken, timid little brother, holding a gun, of all things. “Matt, bro, that crash! Are you okay? W-Wait, is that a gun?! Are you bleeding?! What the—?!”
He barely had time to vocalize all of his questions. Matt was insisting that they had to go over anything he had to say, and before he knew it, he’d been yanked into a closet. The American unknowingly—not that he would actually care if he did notice, the current situation being as frantic as it was—dropped his popsicle before other shut the door and boxed the two into the slim, too dark for comfort closed space.
“Matt, what the heck is going on?!” He demanded.

Matthew didn't even really hear what Alfred had to say. His ears were still ringing from the close encounter and his instincts to run and hide were far greater than the ones to think rationally. So, when they were finally in the closet, he pushed Alfred as far into the back as he could.
His brother might have the potential, but he wasn't ready to face these things. He didn't even have a persona yet! So, Matthew had to do everything he could to keep them both safe. Maybe if they stayed in here, the shadow would lose interest and leave. It hadn't seen the boy run down the stairs, so maybe...
"A-Alfred, j-just stay quiet, please!" he reached a hand up to his brother's mouth and covered it, keeping his own voice as quieter than it usually was.
"R-remember that one videogame? The one with t-the shadow creatures?" Matthew began, he knew this was going to be the easiest way to describe it to his brother. If you could relate it to a videogame, Alfred was sure to pick up on it extremely quick. "T-they might be real."
However, to Matthew, they actually reminded him of the monsters that he would often imagine living under the bed or in the closet. Even now that he was older, the Canadian still did not like putting his feet on the ground at night if it was dark. Always afraid that something might come out and grab him and pull him under. (Like Natalia.) [/blockquote]

Alfred, of course, being the talkative and boisterous person he was, always had trouble being quiet. In air of the current situation, this was no different, and it wasn’t any easier due to the fact that blood was trickling down his twin’s arm where it looked like a piece of his sweatshirt had been torn off. Not to mention, he was all of the sudden brandishing a gun. The American was especially having difficulty comprehending the gun part, but frankly, both were more than a tad concerning.
So naturally, when Matt told him to stay quiet, he frowned and opened his mouth to protest, to once again demand answers, but was silenced by the other’s hand clasping over his lips, muffling whatever it was he was about to say.
He was reaching to pull the Canadian’s hand away and had just got a gentle grip on it when he began speaking once again in an even more hushed than usual tone. His eyes were beginning to adjust, and he could just scarcely make out his brother’s form amidst the darkness as he spoke, his face being so close to his. As he listened to what he had to say, Alfred tried his best to calm down, though, he had to question his hearing and maybe even Matt’s sanity when he thought he heard ‘shadow creatures’ and ‘they might be real’ used together in the same context.
Despite himself, the blond almost laughed, because as awesome as that sounded, it couldn’t be true, right? Matt was probably just yanking his chain. It was some ‘welcome to the dorm’ hoax, or other. At this point, he finally got to pulling the other’s hand off of his mouth. He grinned, all in good humor, and was about to play along with what he thought was a game a little longer when something else caught his attention.
A faint clambering sound.
His widening optics drifted away from his younger twin and towards the door just beside the two as the noise steadily grew louder. It became more and more clear that the sound wasn’t being made by a person. Alfred couldn’t put his finger on why he felt that way, exactly. It just sounded.. inhuman.
When its volume reached its peak, a loud slam resounded, and he jumped, having to stifle a startled squeak. His hold on the other’s hand grew tighter.
“Matt?” He whispered, fear inevitably setting in, regardless of how silly his brother's explanation sounded previously.

Matthew was trying his hardest to remain calm under the circumstances. But, the Canadian had actually never been known to be brave by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, he was rather cowardly at times.
When Alfred removed his hand, he could almost see that was on his face. And Matt was somewhat wishing that the American would just listen to him and take him seriously just this once. Despite the example he used, this wasn't a video game. And he wanted to tell Alfred that more than anything. In the few months Matthew had been here, he had seen people get seriously hurt during this midnight ritual.
"A-Alfred, I-I'm seriou----" he began, but was caught off guard when he heard the sound edging towards the closet. And then, the huge slam.
Matthew quaked slightly, trying his best not to scream. And instead, he returned the tight grip on his brother and made sure he was firmly in front of him, now facing the door. "D-don't move." he whispered. It didn't sound very reassuring or calm. Far from it, he sounded like he was borderline panicking. The dread sinking in that a closet was probably not the best place to hide for the pair.
His brother's hand held tightly in one and his evoker in the other, he stood there and waited. Just hoping that nothing would come; that the shadow would actually pass by them. The few seconds that past were the most excruciating. The being stopped in front of the door and made no sounds. Matthew tightening his grip on the hand he was holding and the gun and shaking on the spot.
Just go away, please just leave us alone!
And oddly enough, the shadow moved after a few moments. The Canadian let out a rather relieved sigh before loosing the grip on Alfred's hand and turning to him, trying to offer the American a reassured smile.
He was about to open the door and take a look outside when he turned his face back around. However, instead of the door, he was met with the blue-faced mask staring directly at him. The shadow had slunk it under the crack in the door. And Matthew's face went absolutely pale
For a moment, he stared back at it in horror. Before not even thinking what would happen, he pulled the gun to his head and shot. "D-Double Fangs!" Callisto appeared and knocked down the door with a loud bang before sinking it's teeth into the shadowy figure.
Matthew grabbed his head with the hand that was holding the gun and shook it slightly, wishing away the dizziness before pulling Alfred along. They had to get out of here! But, outside wasn't a good idea, there would be more. So, he thought for the next best thing.
"W-we need to get to the roof!" he yelled before tugging along his brother to the stairs, the bear still distracting the shadow.
The roof was actually fairly big considering the size of the dorm. It was open and the Canadian had not met and flying shadows before. It was the perfect place to go if he needed to defend them. [/blockquote]

Alfred didn’t need to be told twice not to move. He was frozen stiff, and his normally whirring mind had come to a complete halt. There was no way he could grasp this situation so suddenly. It was all happening so fast, and he still wasn’t all too sure about what was happening in the first place.
The blond’s alarm spiked as it sounded like whatever it was that was coming after them stopped just in front of the door. Not wanting to risk whimpering making any kind of sound, he clamped his mouth shut, swallowing hard, and for the first time since his mother died, prayed. Those brief seconds of silence seemed to drag on for hours, but the threat eventually seemed to go on its way, and Alfred felt his brother relax considerably beside him. That was enough to calm him down as well, and he let out a sigh of his own, though one more bewildered. He could still hear the hammering of his heart in his ears.
After a moment, Alfred tore his eyes away from the door and searched out Matt in the dark, finding him flashing him a smile this time instead of looking completely and utterly terrified, probably in hopes of reassuring him. He returned the smile, a bit unsure of what else to do, still taken aback.
Then, to his confusion, the terrified expression on his twin’s face was back. He looked to see what was causing said expression, and could only stare wide eyed and horrified at the blue face that had suddenly taken its residence in the closet in the short time period when he wasn’t looking.
Alfred hardly had any time to make sense of what was happening. All he knew after it had happened was that the Canadian beside him had held his gun to his head, pulled the trigger, and instead of dropping dead, a bear somehow spawned and leapt forward, yanking the closet door right off of its hinges and attacked the shadow creature that had moments before been just in front of his face.
“W-Wha?!” He practically squeaked once he got his voice back. “Matt, what is—”
And then, once again, Matt was tugging him along insisting that they had to get away, this time to the roof, apparently. At that instant, through the thickened haze of panic, as Alfred spared a final glance toward the newly appeared bear that had been battling off the shadow creature, all he could manage to wonder about was what on Earth he managed to get himself into simply choosing to enroll in World W. Academy.

Matthew knew very well that he would have some major explaining to do once this ordeal was over. Yet, he didn't even have the mind to think about it at this point. Instead, the Canadian continued to tug his brother along, looking back every now and again to reassure himself that Callisto was holding the shadow back.
In the back of his mind, somewhere where the ringing and the dizziness wasn't, the blond wondered exactly where the other dorm members were. Even if it was just one shadow at the moment, there were bound to be more. How this one managed to go undetected and slip inside was still a mystery, and Matthew cursed himself for not being strong enough to handle the loner.
Matthew could feel Callisto's presence disappear from the building, meaning that she had finished her onslaught. But the battle was not over. When they reached one of the higher levels, Matthew let go of his brother and peered down the staircase. There was no sounds to be heard...did she actually finish it off?
It was doubtful, but he held on to that hope. Slinking to the floor and heaving a sigh, Matthew clutched his arm and turned to look Alfred. The shadow had only one way to come up and if it did, he would be standing there ready for it.
"A-Al, are you okay?" he asked quietly. [/blockquote]

Though he was panting and still in a state of undiminished confusion and shock, Alfred managed to reply to his brother. He took extra care to keep his voice down, lest the same creature or anything else hear the two and fling itself at them. “Y-Yeah.”
After a quick glance towards the stairs they’d just practically scrambled up, he fixed a worried gaze on the hand Matthew was clutching his nicked arm with. He was originally going to pester for more of an explanation on what had just happened, but for the first time that night, Alfred had a moment to breathe and somewhat sort his thoughts out, and he decided, seeing his twin there on the floor, likely in a fair amount of pain, that it’d probably be best to ask questions later.
A concerned frown on his features, he kneeled down next to the Canadian, once again taking a hold of his hand, this time to gently pull it off his wound. The motion itself was nostalgic, something that Alfred had done so many times before on the occasion that the younger of the two would trip and fall when they were just little kids. It was something that he’d done so many times for Alfred in return.
“I’m more worried about you, bro.” He laughed quietly, proceeding to release his hold. The blond began patting about his person, digging into his bomber jacket’s pockets, along with his front and back pants pockets. Cursing softly when he found nothing save for some loose change and gummy bears that might or might not have been more than a week old, he reached to his jacket a second time, this time to pull it up and allow him to get a grip on the long sleeved shirt he was wearing underneath it.
Fingering the hem, Alfred effortlessly ripped off a wide enough strip, trying to keep the cloth from making too much noise in the process. It wouldn’t be as fit as a bandage would be, and he was no doctor—though he did have a PHD in awesome—but he was pretty sure it would be good enough for now. It would put pressure on the wound, at least. He knew that much, and after all, as a hero and, more importantly, as a big brother, he had to make use of his surroundings and whatever else he could, namely in situations like these.
This being the case, the only other thing he could offer was a small, apologetic smile as he pulled the other’s sweatshirt’s sleeve up, trying his best not to drag it along the cut as he did so.
“I doubt we can go back downstairs any time real soon, or anything, so..” The American laughed again at that, his smile going a bit crooked as he wrapped the piece of cloth around Matthew’s arm, tying it into a knot and pulling it tight, but not so tight as to hurt him. “Sorry, could ya’ deal with that for a bit?”

Despite the situation that they were in, Alfred still managed to laugh and stay somewhat optimistic. It was a trait that the Canadian had always admired in his brother. The two were similar in many ways, but when it came to their personalities, Alfred and Matthew couldn't be any more different.
"I-I'm fine, Alfred. T-there is no n-need to worry." Matthew insisted, offering his brother a reassuring smile.
That smiled turned into a frown when Alfred moved his hand, though. He wanted to protest and to tell the older brother that he would be fine. But, Matthew knew by this point there was no telling him no. instead, he allowed the action. "h-haha..."
The blond laughed quietly in response. It was so nostalgic, Alfred hadn't been here for even a full night. Yet, Matthew felt like he had never left home in the first place and that thought alone made him giggle.
"D-dad would kill you if he s-saw what you did to your shirt." he teased, before a grateful smile appeared on his face. "Thank you, Al."
"Y-you are right..." he added solemnly, "I-I'm sure there are a lot of t-things that you want t-to know. A-and I'll be fine, d-don't worry!"
Matthew watched Alfred for a moment more and was about to begin explaining, "L-listen, t-that thing is dangerous. W-we call them Shadows---"
Almost on que, the Canadian heard a crash. It sounded like, indeed that shadow had yet to fall. Not only that, but that now they were one lamp short in the lobby. Matthew sighed as he stood up and looked down the stairs. It would come up that way sooner or later, he knew it for sure. It sounded like it was still confused at the moment, however.
"A-Al, if that thing starts coming upstairs you need t-to get to the roof. Okay?" he said, picking up the gun and grasping it tightly. [/blockquote]

Alfred snickered, but smiled warmly in response, briefly patting the other on the head. “What he don't know won't hurt him.”
Looking away from Matthew, his smile fading, he spared yet another glance that quickly turned into a hard stare toward the stairs. Clearly paranoid, he had to wonder how much longer it would be until they were rid of the creature that hopefully wasn’t planning on rampaging through the rest of the dorm, namely the floor the twins occupying at the moment. Alfred’s frown deepened. He was caught off guard last time, but as if he was going to let it come anywhere near his brother again. He’d fight it off with his bare hands if he had to, he decided.
The blond snapped out of his thoughts and looked back to the Canadian as he began speaking again. Hearing the seemingly queued crash that interrupted, he jumped, his eyes going wide in horror.
“B-But, bro, you’re not gonna’ try to fight it alone, are you?” Alfred questioned, voice somewhat shaky. He rose to his feet as well, casting his fear aside and shaking his head at Matthew. “I’m not gonna’ leave you! Not alone! Especially alone with that.. freaky.. whatchamacallit.. Shadow thing! Nuh-uh!”
A questionable thwacking sound followed the crash, and though the American flinched, it only strengthened his resolve.

Despite the situation, Matthew smiled yet again. It was hard not to, Alfred's presence was comforting even if the Canadian knew that there was nothing the American could do to help at this moment.
"I-I don't have a choice. I-I don't know w-where everyone else is."
"A-Alfred, you won't be able to do anything without a Pers--" he began, but was cut off by yet another crash. Quickly he ran back over to the stairs and saw the mass climbing it's way up. And just as quickly, he ran back to his brother and attempted to usher him up to the roof. "I-It'll be here soon, go! I'll be fine." Matthew ordered, standing his ground with gun in his hand and ready.
Though, the Canadian wasn't actually sure about that. The monster was clearly not fazed by ice-based attacks. But, he just couldn't let his brother get wrapped up in this. Not yet, at least. It was too early and Alfred most likely had no idea what was going on. It was his turn to protect his brother for a change. [/blockquote]

“Matt, there’s no way in hell I’m leaving you down here with that thing!” Alfred insisted for the second time, stubborn and determined as ever.
He still didn’t fully understand what his brother was talking about, but there had to be some way he could help. He was sure he could at least distract the thing, if he had to, but he’d throw a full carton of ice cream out before he’d downright abandon anyone like that, especially his twin. Hearing it clambering closer and closer, he pursed his lips in contemplation. He had to do something.
Making up his mind, not so much as pausing in a moment of hesitation, Alfred dashed ahead of Matt, skidding to a stop at the top of the stairs.
“Hey, ugly!” The American called down the staircase, looking the monstrosity straight in its ‘eyes’ as it continued to climb. “What’s behind that mask? The face only a mother could love, am I right?” He took this opportunity to stick his tongue out, taking a small step back as he wiggled his fingers about his ears mockingly. “Nah, on second thought, I don’t think even a mother could love that face. Sorry!”
Finally seeing it seeming to lock its sights on him, Alfred grinned, feeling accomplished.
“Betcha’ can’t catch me~!” He went on in a sing-song tone, taking yet another step back and urging it on with a wag of his finger.

"Alfred! T-there isn't anything you can d---!!" Matt had attempted to object and failed as the elder began to provoke the black gooey mass of monster.
At first, he was confused. The Canadian did not understand what his brother was planning until he started playing tag with it. And that was when it dawned on the blond. His twin was attempting to gain its attention. "Alfred! Stop!" he cried out.
It seemed to be too late, the monster locked on to its new target and made a mad dash past Matthew and towards the provokee. Almost on instict he turned around and attempted to cast Double Fangs yet again on the Shadow. The monster stopped only briefly, slashing at Matthew with one of it's knives. The Canadian ducked, avoiding the preemtive strike.
And then, it was after Alfred again. Matthew couldn't do more but run after and attempt to gain it's attention again.
Don't try to be the hero... [/color][/size][/blockquote]

Alfred smirked when the creature finally took the bait and began dashing towards him. He continued to step back, making sure he was in proper position. The blond admittedly nearly had a heart attack when his brother just barely avoided getting sliced, but he recovered and was visibly relieved when he noticed it had once again set its sights on him.
His smirk returned, and he gave the monster a small wave as it drew near. Bending his knees just slightly, he could only really be compared to a baseball player in the outfield waiting for the hit. When it was finally close enough, he leaped out of the way, performing some kind of a half-cartwheel, half-roll in recovery as he watched the black mess splat against the wall that had been directly behind him.
“Hah!” Alfred cheered, jumping up onto his feet and pumping his fists in the air. He looked to his brother, beaming with pride. “See, bro? I can handle stuff like this! No problem!”
As the American was thoroughly enjoying his minor victory, he felt a steady stirring behind him. Upon turning, his eyes grew wider. The monster’s mask was slowly seeping through from the other side of the black goop, its numerous weapons that had previously fallen to the floor suddenly being suspended in mid-air as just as many hands formed to wield them. Alfred practically did a double take when he realized it was recovering.
